How to Be Happy Daily
To be truly happy seems like an impossible thought. With all the crises we are experiencing now – the pandemic, the war in other countries, price hikes, hunger, and revolution – it is nearly impossible to think of something good. We end up feeling hopeless about our future. It feels like we’re all doom. But fear not. Before you worry yourself to death, take a deep breath and exhale. Stop overthinking about the things that aren’t happening yet.
Our life is short; we don’t need to consider the future. Let the future worry for itself. What matters is now. Whenever you catch yourself thinking about the inevitable future, stop. Take a look around you. There are so many things that you should be thankful for. And there are so many things that still make this life worthwhile. So put aside your worries and follow these tips to be truly happy.
Learn to manage your stress
We can’t avoid stress as it is part of our lives. However, we can always find ways to reduce them and learn different techniques to manage our time. Make time for exercise and yourself. These are positive changes that you need. Being in control of your time is an effective way to reduce stress.
Practice Controlled Breathing
One of the best ways to stay happy is through controlled breathing. Along with science, studies found that controlled breathing helps reduce symptoms associated with anxiety, PTSD, depression, insomnia, and ADHD. Yoga practitioners have used breath control, or Pranayama, to promote concentration for centuries. It also helps improve vitality, and Buddha advocated breath meditation to become enlightened. Give it a try; it will also make you feel lighter and happier.
Add exercise to your schedule
Have you ever found yourself feeling lethargic and unhappy halfway through the day? Do you find yourself less energetic? Maybe you don’t have enough energy to complete simple tasks. If you do, then it’s time to pump up your energy! Adding exercise to your schedule helps you in many ways. Exercising relieves tension and stress by strengthening the muscles. It also boosts your endurance and helps your body work more effectively while doing activities.
Get enough sleep
Our lifestyle these days seems to disappear in a snap. We work most of the time, and sleeping doesn’t seem to be a priority. But by the end of the day, we all feel exhausted. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep is the key to keeping a healthy body and happy perspective.
Notice your sleep patterns if you are struggling with sleep. Note how much sleep you get each night and the factors that affect your sleep or lack thereof. Do you feel rested? Do you feel energetic throughout the day?
You can then try sleep strategies to help improve your sleeping hours. Minimizing noise and light, turning off electronic devices, creating a relaxing environment before bedtime, and the likes are all helpful in getting enough sleep.
When the quality of your sleep improves, your mood will also change. You will be a lot happier and more productive in the long run.
Practice a positive outlook
Optimism is learned and partly genetic. So even if you were born into a family with a pessimistic outlook, you could still learn to be positive. But having a positive outlook doesn’t ignore the reality of the situation but gives you that sense of hope.
Positive thoughts, surrounding yourself with happy people, and affirming yourself with positive words are infectious. It’s like the Law of Attraction. The more you think of positive things, the happier you become. Give it a try and see how it goes.
Do meaningful things each day
Do you have an exceptional talent? Use it. Are you passionate about something? Pursue it. Whatever it is that you want to do, do them. Life is short; use your talents and do something meaningful each day. Do something you enjoy, whether it be cooking or listening to your favorite song, do them. Making an effort into the things that mean a lot to you will bring out the best in you. So go ahead and list the things that make your day happy and do them whenever possible.
Avoid information overload
Sometimes the news we hear and see on the television or social media brings our spirit down. We already know that there are so many bad things in the world; we don’t need to hear all that. Avoiding news overload doesn’t mean you don’t want to see the bad things around you. You have to be selective about the information you consume.
If we keep feeding our minds about the negative things we see or hear daily, it’s information overload. Notice how drained you become after hearing about bad news. It will affect not only your mind but your emotions as well. So, to be happy, you must choose the things that make your mind and heart happy.
