When You Feel Unmotivated Try These Tips

It is not always easy to get back on our feet, and you are not alone too. There are also people out there who are not motivated enough to do anything about their situation.

If you ever find yourself in this situation, don’t worry. There are plenty of ways to unlock yourself from the current slump. All you have to do is try them out. Here’s how you can motivate yourself again.

1. Simplify your needs.

Sometimes, you don’t have any motivation because you feel like every task is complicated. It is hard to focus when your mind is in a clutter. Added to the projects or activities you should be doing, motivation can die down when you are not up for the tasks.

The best thing you can do is to simplify your needs. If you don’t have any motivation to do the big stuff, try focusing on the simple ones. It is okay not to tackle anything if you don’t have the will to do them. Instead, try doing the things you love. It can increase your motivation if you don’t have one right now.

2. Learn to unplug.

There comes a time when we are overwhelmed with our day-to-day lives. Even when you think that you are used to them, there are moments when no matter how hard you push yourself to do something, the motivation is not there. When this happens, unplug yourself from the world for a while [1].

Unplugging yourself means taking a break from the usual routine that you have. If you work in front of the computer, shut it down and take a walk. Take in some fresh air; it will refresh your head and mind. Nurses who feel burnout at work ask for a day off or a vacation leave. Unplugging for a couple of days is enough to get you back up again.

3. Break down your tasks.

Tackling a massive project can sometimes put your motivation to zero. No matter how eager you are to finish it, there are moments when nothing feels right to you. To get your inspiration back, find a way to break down your project into smaller tasks. This way, you can still work on it even if you don’t have the motivation to tackle everything. Once you are in the flow, you can easily take on it.

4. Listen to motivational words.

Sometimes, we need to listen to encouraging words to get us going. Listening to a word of advice, watching inspirational speeches on YouTube, and listening to podcasts with the same theme can make a difference. If you don’t have the motivation, look for it. In this case, try to listen. It can certainly encourage you to move!

5. Set attainable goals.

Setting goals can help you move, and it does not have to be very big. It could be as little as saving up money for a nice pair of shoes. Maybe you want to start running; you can time yourself to run a couple of miles. Then increase the time and number of miles when you pass your first one.

Once you have reached that goal, remember how it feels. You can then plan your following goals to keep the same motivation going. So, when you feel unmotivated the next time, set attainable goals. It will inspire you to do something again.

6. Get motivation from others.

We all have one or two people who can help us get our motivation back. Find yourself someone who can do the same for you. It could be your best friend, a mentor, or anyone who can inspire you to do something again. Join groups that help people like you if you don’t have one. You can even attend virtual meetings with like-minded people. The truth is, you can find inspiration almost everywhere if you reach out to people. You will be happy that you did too!

7. Create a bucket list.

When you feel unmotivated, tons of things seem meaningless to you. Your work may look like a “waste” of time, and you feel useless. The truth is, you just lost your will to do anything, and perhaps, it is time that you do something new to get the motivation back again.

Creating a bucket list does not mean you will die soon, but it will give you a new set of inspirations to keep you motivated. If you dreamed of skydiving, add that to your bucket list. How about swimming with the whales? Sounds like a good plan, right? – you see, your bucket list may sound ridiculous to some, but it is there to motivate you. So, go ahead and write yours. It may be what you need.

8. Develop an attitude of gratitude.

When you are thankful for what you have and the people around you, the impact can be immense [2]. Expressing gratitude can open your eyes to the essential things in life. Having gratitude can also increase your energy and feelings of abundance. It inspires you to become a better person. And when you are thankful for everything, motivation is everywhere.

9. Increase your energy for increased motivation.

The thing about motivation is that your energy drives it. When your energy is low, so is your inspiration. Notice how your motivation goes when you are fired up or excited about something. When your energy is up, it is easy to get things done.

When you have high levels of energy, you become more productive. So, when you feel unmotivated, find things that can give you increased energy levels and stick to them. You will be happy with the results too!

Your Takeaway

I must say that being motivated is not an easy task, especially when experiencing some life issues. After all, we are human – our energies can die down with no warning. When you feel unmotivated, find ways to get yourself going. Find the inspiration and encouragement you need, whether it be through friends, family, strangers, or an inspirational quote. They are everywhere if you seek them. Hopefully, our list can help you with that. Good luck!
