Why a Change in Scenery Can Help Us

Jul 5, 2022 | Live it Not in it

Our mental health is a priority no matter what happens. That is why a change in scenery can help us. When work stresses you out, or you’re feeling burned out, take a vacation and see what happens.

Why a Change in Scenery Can Help Us in a Big Way

For some of us who do not get to travel as often, traveling for a bit can impact our mental health in a good way. That is why it is highly recommended that you take a short break as part of your self-care. Here’s what you can benefit from a change of scenery.

It relieves stress.

One of the most common causes of life-long illnesses is stress. It can affect major organs in the body and can weaken your immune system. However, when you are on vacation, you move away from the usual stresses you face every day. If you do not have the budget to go on vacation, don’t worry. Taking a short drive or road trip can also work. The goal is to get away from the stress.

Keep in mind that you can’t avoid stress, but a little bit of pressure is healthy. However, if you face daily stresses and feel like you cannot breathe, it is a sign that you need to make some changes. Taking a short break will help you recharge.

You get to see places.

If you are used to a work-home routine, a change of scenery is good for your mental health. Living a routined life can get boring at some point. It limits your “world,” and you may feel boxed in. Taking time for a short vacation or a road trip offers you the chance to see other places, which can lift your mood.

Don’t be afraid to take short breaks; we all need a breather now and then. Work is a priority, but of course, do take care of your mental health as well. All work and no play can make you dull.

Heals your energy.

A change in scenery can help us by healing our energy [1]. Not many people know this, but notice how your energy seems to spike up whenever you are exposed to a different location or whenever you see a new scenario.

For example, imagine driving up on the road, and then when you turn in the corner, you see a vast field of tall, green trees. Imagine seeing all colors of autumn shades among these trees as a whiff of fresh air hits your nose, and all you can say is wow. Sounds heavenly if you ask me!

This kind of reaction goes the same when you go to a different location. Your body and mind are refreshed, therefore recharging your energy. Give it a try and see how you feel afterward.

You see the world in a different view.

It is easy to get buried in the pile of work and be stressed all the time. But when you take the chance and see new scenery, you realize that not everything revolves around work. The fresh air, the beautiful views, the people you meet, the food you eat – all of these make life worth it.

Life is not all about work; it is also about appreciating the small things in a big way! So if you ever find yourself burned out, go and take a drive. A change of scenery can help tremendously. It also opens your eyes to everything that you haven’t experienced before.

Your Takeaway

I understand that not all of us have the luxury of taking a break and going on a vacation. Some of us would prefer working than taking a break because these trips can be expensive. However, it would be best if you also took notice of your mental health. Your work will be there when you get back. And if you have an understanding employer, they know how important mental health is and how taking care of it is crucial to their employees.

Ask for a paid leave, get yourself together, recharge and bask in the sun. You need to reconnect with yourself and nature if you wish to improve your mental health. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, and taking care of your mental health is even better. Do take time off; you know you need it!
